Befriending
Info4U
Info4U is an innovative new project aimed at ensuring that people 75+ aren't admitted to hospitals or nursing care when they would be better staying at home, and more independant.
Funded by Brighter Futures, a national government resource, we are working with the CAB, CARM and others to recruit volunteers 55+ and keen to befriend older people, help them access information and gain self confidence, so they are less likely to go into hospital/nursing home un-necessarily.
Info4U volunteers will visit older people, who may be disabled, ill, or housebound, and feel lonely or isolated - because they live in rural areas, have little or no family contact - for about an hour a week for a cup of tea and a chat. They may also assist them to find information about local support networks, such as the CAB, Age Concern, driving/gardening services etc., and refer to specialist agencies for more in-depth advice and assistance.
Travel costs to and from the client's home are paid, and a short induction is provided. Ongoing support and information is available from Helen Butcher, the Info4U Project Outreach Worker, and she will try to resolve any problems that may arise, answer any queries from volunteers and clients; and will make every effort to contact clients regularly to make sure they are happy with our service.
If you're interested in joining this vital new project, which really will change the lives of older people in your area, please call Helen on 07734 759472; or email info4uashford@yahoo.co.uk
